St Francis Bay is the unexplored jewel of the Garden Route and is situated only 100 kms from Port Elizabeth en route to Cape Town.  It can also be a wonderful stop-over for guests going on to Addo Elephant Park or prior to flying out of Port Elizabeth on the final leg of their journey to South Africa.

Nestled on the incredible & unique tidal canal system, Brisan B&B on the Canals is the ideal accommodation venue to experience the wonders of this beautiful village, with its white walls and black thatch roofing.  While the uniformity of the style lends itself to the graciousness of the area, every house is individual and commands attention.

Brisan B&B on the Canals offers guests superb accommodation to suit everyone.  All the beds are extra length and of top quality to ensure a good nights rest.  Only 100% cotton percale linen is used and all rooms have a tea/coffee tray, dressing table, hairdryer, guest amenities and television.

The luxury room upstairs is ideal for those who enjoy the extra space, or for families, as it is a large room with a king/twin bed, lounge area with fold out double sleeper couch, luxury bathroom with bath and separate shower.  This room leads on to a huge balcony with built in barbecue facility, patio furniture and sun loungers, overlooking the canals and mountains.  Here you can enjoy the privacy and tranquillity of the area while relaxing on the deck with a long, cold drink, cup of tea or coffee, or your own ‘braai’. The tidal canals ensure 100% fresh seawater daily.

The other superb accommodation is three canal facing rooms, each with its own entrance, patio furniture and Weber barbecue.  These rooms offer guests very comfortable accommodation with king/twin beds, luxury bathroom with bath and separate shower.  Two of the rooms are adjacent to each other and are ideal for those travelling together or for families with 2 or 3 children.

The remaining rooms are both upstairs.  The large, sunny room with small private balcony overlooks the side gardens.  The room has king/twin bed, bath and separate shower and is also suitable for a family as there is space for a stretcher or airbed mattress.

The adjacent room upstairs also has king/twin bed and the bathroom a shower over the bath.  This room looks over the veld towards the village.

The house boasts an enclosed patio with roll down see-through awnings and stainless steel built in barbecue available for your use during inclement weather .Here guests can enjoy their gourmet breakfasts in all weathers while basking in the beauty and tranquillity of the surroundings overlooking the canals.

Brisan on the Canals is the perfect B&B for guests to experience St Francis Bay.  Your host, Janet, is well acquainted with the area and can advise visitors regarding sights, activities and restaurants available.  The Village offers excellent cuisine including fresh fish, local calamari, superb steaks, Greek food, curries and fine dining.  The choices are excellent.

Canal and River Cruises are the highlight for most visitors to St Francis Bay and can be booked with Brisan on the Canals.  Owners Brian and Sandy both have ‘Skippers Tickets’ and have been cruising the canals and river for many years.  Our pontoon boat, “The Swan of Brisan”, is equipped with a gas griller and full gas stove in order to prepare a delicious meal or light refreshments while cruising.  As one American journalist wrote and said “Your B&B is lovely, and the experience of having breakfast out on the water in the morning was definitely the highlight of our trip.”  The sights and sounds which abound will prove to be just that.

Whether you take a shorter canal cruise or one encompassing the canals and the Kromme River, it will be an unforgettable experience.

For golf enthusiasts, St Francis Bay is fortunate to be able to offer visitors the choice of two golf courses. The St Francis Links is a Jack Nicklaus signature course, top 10 in South Africa, opened in 2006 by the Maestro himself.  It is a course of extraordinary beauty and a true links challenge.  The St Francis Bay Golf course is a very well manicured parkland/links course and a real test of golf in wonderful surroundings.  Brian and Sandy are keen golfers and as members of the Links are able to negotiate preferential rates for guests at both courses.

For water sport enthusiasts, St Francis Bay has much to offer – for the surfers, Bruce’s Beauties (the perfect wave), kite-surfing for the energetic, wave boarding, waterskiing, swimming and walking on our safe and pristine beaches, and much more.

The latest innovation is the Chokka Trail for Slackpackers.  This is a 4-day, 3-night stop hike through Oyster Bay, The Sand River, Mosterts Hoek, the Wild Side and includes accommodation and meals in upmarket establishments with dinner, bed and breakfast. This includes a night at Brisan on the Canals.

We also have our own special Whale-Watching venues in St Francis Bay, as these enormous mammals come close in to the shore.  We have access to a cottage at “Rebels Rus” Nature Reserve where the whales can be seen in close proximity to the shore.  A visit to our delightful harbour, Port St Francis, is a must.  Here one can view the excitement of our local fishing boats as they load up to go to sea or unload their catch of the day.

Whatever is of interest to you, our guests, we at Brisan B&B on the Canals will ensure that your stay with us will be an unforgettable experience while visiting our unique Village in the Eastern Cape. St Francis Bay is the Alpha and Omega of the Garden Route.
